Airbnb pulls the emergency brake: Complete ban on surveillance cameras in living spaces shocks hosts.

Airbnb Tightens Its Security Policies and Bans Hosts from Using Indoor Surveillance Cameras Starting April 30. Until now, cameras in shared spaces such as living rooms or hallways were allowed, as long as guests were informed before booking and the cameras were clearly visible. Now, only outdoor cameras are permitted, such as in doorbells. Noise monitors, which are intended to detect parties at properties, will remain permissible, but guests must be informed about them in advance.

This Tightening of Rules According to Airbnb Affects Only a Small Portion of Listed Accommodations. In the Past, However, There Have Been Reports from Guests Who Encountered Cameras in Their Accommodations to Their Surprise. Violations of the New Rules Can Lead to the Removal of Listings or Host Accounts from the Platform.

For hotels that list their rooms on Airbnb, cameras in public areas such as lobbies, hallways, and restaurants remain permitted. Airbnb's stock gained 2.26 percent in NASDAQ trading, closing at 166.67 US dollars.

Airbnb's decision comes amid concerns about guests' privacy and security. Other accommodation platforms such as Vrbo and Booking.com have similar regulations regarding indoor security cameras. However, Airbnb emphasized that guests' safety and satisfaction are of utmost priority and that they continue to work on being a trusted provider.

The new regulation is meant to provide both guests and hosts with a sense of security and privacy. Airbnb has announced that it will continue to work closely with experts and review the rules continuously to ensure they meet current needs.
