In the world of social networks, continual user growth is seen as a barometer for success and relevance. Meta, the digital behemoth behind platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has reason to celebrate: Threads, the latest offering from Meta positioned as a counterpart to Elon Musk's successor to Twitter, is showing impressive growth figures. At the announcement of the latest business results, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg declared that Threads now boasts 130 million monthly active users – an increase of 30 million in just three months. This impressive growth can be attributed, not least, to the EU launch in December, which was eagerly anticipated due to initial delays. Zuckerberg has consistently expressed confidence that Threads has the potential to captivate well over a billion users. The current usage statistics affirm this optimism and prove that the app is now more frequently used than immediately following its initial launch last summer. Nevertheless, despite the positive trend, Threads is still at the beginning of its growth trajectory. In comparison, Facebook's user base has surpassed the three-billion mark. Moreover, each month a total of 3.19 billion users interact with at least one product from the Meta portfolio. Meanwhile, Threads benefits from its integration into Instagram, where it can leverage an established user base of hundreds of millions – a strategic advantage that significantly favors the platform's adoption.
