A Doll Classic in the Spotlight: Mattel celebrates an outstanding Christmas business thanks to the resounding success of the "Barbie" movie, which significantly boosted the sales figures of the iconic Barbie doll. The latest business figures, published after the end of the US trading day, revealed an impressive 27 percent increase in gross Barbie doll business, amounting to revenues of $473 million. Notably, the increase in the North American market stands out, where Mattel recorded growth of 43 percent. The "Barbie" movie, which debuted in the summer and rang the global box office registers with revenues of over one billion dollars, played a key role in reviving interest in Barbie products, which at times appeared to be declining. Mattel's gross business includes revenues earned from customer invoices, understood to be net of any discounts. Across the entire product range of the company, sales climbed 16 percent year-over-year to $1.6 billion, which is approximately 1.5 billion euros. A true surge in profits was achieved compared to the same quarter of the previous year, with Mattel increasing its profit from $16.1 million then to now $147.3 million. This economic upturn underscores the ongoing relevance of the doll classic in the modern toy industry and Mattel's ability to successfully revitalize iconic brands with contemporary media.
