Aviation security personnel to continue warning strikes on Friday.

The tariff conflict within the air transport industry continues to progress and causes ongoing unrest at German airports. This Friday, passengers must anticipate further disruptions after the Verdi union called for strikes at six additional airports. This affects the airports of Hannover, Dortmund, Weeze, Dresden, Leipzig, and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, once again disturbing the plans of several thousand travelers. The first strike participants began to cease work as early as last evening in Hannover. These warning strikes are strategies of the union to underscore their demands for better wages and working conditions for the aviation security staff before the upcoming negotiation round on March 20th. This action follows massive cancellations the day before, where around 580 flights were canceled, as security checks could not be conducted at five major German airports. However, the airport association ADV expects a lower number of flight cancellations for today. Passengers can expect intensified measures, especially in Dortmund and Weeze, where no flights are scheduled to take off, and in Hannover, where strikes are set until midday. Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden already indicated in advance that all scheduled flights would be canceled or diverted. The actions in Dresden and Leipzig are also time-limited, which could additionally impact operations. At the heart of the negotiations is the remuneration of about 25,000 employees of private security services who carry out essential security tasks on behalf of the Federal Police. On the other hand, there are signs of development in the tariff conflict with the ground staff of Lufthansa, as Verdi proposes arbitration in conjunction with the aviation corporation and simultaneously paves the way for possible compulsory measures through a strike ballot.
