Cautious Wall Street: Investors Await Inflation Data, Boeing in Decline

Eulerpool News·

At the start of the week, investors on Wall Street showed restraint. Immediately prior to the release of new US inflation data, traders refrained from taking large positions. Following new record highs in cryptocurrencies, companies from this sector only managed to record short-term profits before their stocks fell again. Despite a weak start, the Dow Jones Industrial managed to offset losses and ultimately closed with a small gain of 0.12 percent, ending the trading day at 38,769.66 points. Contrarily, the S&P 500 suffered slight losses, falling 0.11 percent to 5,117.94 points. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 dropped by 0.37 percent to 17,951.69 points, thus failing to continue its record-breaking performance from Friday. There is tension amongst market participants regarding the US consumer prices for February, which will be announced on Tuesday. There is particular interest in whether and how these data could influence the US Federal Reserve's decision-making for a potential rate cut. Boeing faced another setback after a new incident with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner caused uncertainty. The aerospace company's stock fell significantly by three percent, making it the weakest stock in the Dow. In the cryptocurrency market, although Bitcoin set new benchmarks beyond the $72,000 mark, this success was not reflected in the share prices of related companies. Coinbase slipped by one percent, despite initial gains, while Sofi Technologies remained comparatively stable with a loss of 0.4 percent. Riot Platforms and Marathon Digital, on the other hand, experienced more significant losses. After the market close, Oracle's quarterly figures were on the agenda. The technology company's stocks presented a solid increase of 1.5 percent at the market's end. Meanwhile, the euro remained stable at 1.0926 US dollars, a condition that has persisted since Friday. US government bonds fell slightly, leading to a rise in yields for ten-year papers to 4.10 percent.
