GE Vernova has secured a contract from Kansai Electric Power Company to supply three 7HA.03 gas turbines for the modernization of the Nanko power plant in Osaka, Japan. This will replace existing conventional LNG power plant facilities, including three boilers and three steam turbines. The planned upgrade promises to increase the efficiency of the facility and significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions. These measures align with Japan's ambitious environmental goals, as pursued under the latest Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) plan, with the aim of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. In addition to the supply, GE Vernova will also provide on-site services. The company has been active in the Japanese energy market for over 130 years and contributes to the national power generation capacity, particularly in the fields of heavy-duty gas power generation, renewable energy, and nuclear energy. Ramesh Singaram, President and CEO of GE Vernova Gas Power Asia, stated: "The facility is expected to feed up to 1.8 GW of electricity into the grid. Additionally, the 7HA.03 gas turbine technology can currently burn up to 50% hydrogen in combination with natural gas, with a technological pathway to 100% in the next ten years." In September 2023, GE Vernova also entered into a partnership with Aula Energy and CS Energy to supply 38 wind turbines with 6 MW and a height of 164 meters for the Boulder Creek Wind Farm in Queensland, Australia.
