The automotive manufacturer Stellantis has announced that production of the new version of the popular Jeep Compass SUV will commence next year in Melfi, Italy. This model, based on Stellantis's flexible medium platform, offers versatile powertrain options. Planned versions include fully electric, hybrid, and conventional combustion variants, through which Stellantis aims to address affordability and market demand. With the production of the new Jeep Compass, Stellantis hopes for a boost in the recently declining production in Italy, which had stalled due to weak market demand and factory adjustments for new models. According to the FIM-CISL union, output in the group's Italian plants decreased by more than 30 percent in the first nine months of the year, with the Melfi plant experiencing a 62 percent decline. For 2024, a nationwide production volume of under 500,000 vehicles is targeted, compared to 751,000 the previous year. In addition to manufacturing the Jeep Compass, Stellantis plans to start production of a new model under the premium brand DS in Melfi at the beginning of 2025. More medium-sized vehicles are to be produced at this facility in the following years. Starting in 2026, production of the new Jeep Compass will be expanded to North America and other markets.
