RWE and TotalEnergies are joining forces for an ambitious offshore wind project in Germany. The two corporations announced that TotalEnergies will acquire a 50 percent stake in two significant offshore wind projects from RWE. These projects were awarded to RWE in Germany's recent offshore wind auction in August this year. Construction is planned to begin in 2029 and 2030, while final investment decisions are expected in 2027 and 2028. Full commissioning is scheduled for 2031 and 2032. The two offshore projects are located approximately 70 miles northwest of Borkum at sites N-9.1 and N-9.2, each with a planned generation capacity of 2 gigawatts. Sven Utermöhlen, CEO of RWE Offshore Wind, expressed satisfaction with the partnership with TotalEnergies, a reliable partner in the Dutch OranjeWind project. This collaboration is an important step in advancing the energy transition in Germany. Olivier Jouny, Senior Vice President Renewables at TotalEnergies, emphasized that the collaboration with RWE will contribute to the decarbonization of the German electricity market. RWE currently operates 19 offshore wind farms and has four major projects underway, including the Sofia facility in the United Kingdom and the Thor project in Denmark. Together with TotalEnergies, the OranjeWind project in the Netherlands is also being developed. With the North Sea cluster, another large facility north of the island of Juist, RWE aims to increase its global offshore wind capacity to 10 GW by 2030.
