Mark Cuban expressed his admiration for Elon Musk during a conversation on the All-In Podcast but also voiced his concerns about Musk's handling of free speech on X, formerly known as Twitter. While acknowledging Musk's entrepreneurial skills, Cuban sharply criticized his behavior on the platform, calling Musk a "troll" who engages in trolling without an apparent goal. Cuban believes that Musk's stance on free speech is influenced by a fear of losing users, particularly from conservative circles. Cuban emphasizes that while he supports freedom of speech, its connection to hate speech and inappropriate content poses a problem for advertisers. "When it comes to free speech, it applies to advertisers as well. They can choose who they want to associate with, no matter what. There are consequences," Cuban explained. The presence of harmful content on X could deter advertising partners, jeopardizing the platform's financial viability. He also highlighted that explicit content on X, accessible to young users, further complicates the platform's appeal to advertisers. Cuban concluded that despite the importance of free speech, the financial impacts on X cannot be ignored. The ongoing dialogue between Cuban and Musk is not new. In the same podcast, Cuban offered to help Musk increase X’s revenue and expressed concern about declining user numbers. Previously, Cuban accused Musk of manipulating "truths" on X and causing chaos regarding factual information. The two entrepreneurs have clashed over various topics such as diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as their support for different candidates. In an earlier interview, Cuban shared his thoughts on Musk and his relationship with Donald Trump, mentioning that he could see Musk rolling his eyes at certain topics, particularly environmental and nuclear power issues as well as DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion).
