Shearwater GeoServices has secured a prestigious contract to conduct an Ocean-Bottom-Node (OBN) study in Angola, commissioned by the French energy giant TotalEnergies. This project marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to efficiently analyze and exploit resources in the depths of the Atlantic. The investigation is scheduled to begin in January 2025 and is expected to last about two and a half months. The survey area is Block 32, which includes the Louro and Mostarda fields. Interestingly, Shearwater has previously successfully conducted a 4D streamer survey in this area. For the upcoming study, the company will deploy the vessel SW Tasman—a seismic node deployment vessel that was upgraded in 2023 and equipped with two remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). The SW Gallien will serve as the supply and support vessel. Another technical advantage of the survey is Shearwater’s compact and resilient Pearl node, known for its consistent performance since its debut the previous year. Irene Waage Basili, CEO of Shearwater, expressed her satisfaction with the performance of the SW Tasman/Pearl platform. The unique concept has proven to be exceptionally efficient and is once again resonating with an important client that is ready to introduce deep-water OBN in new operational areas. The Louro and Mostarda fields play a key role in the West African Kaombo ultra-deep-water project, which has been in production since July 2018. The project is supported by two FPSO vessels, Kaombo Norte and Kaombo Sul. This new contract comes just a few months after Shearwater won a significant contract for a seismic survey as part of the Morecambe Bay Carbon Storage Project in the United Kingdom.
