Grenade action in Jenin: Palestinian government takes tough action against militant groups

In a rare and deadly operation, the Palestinian government cracked down in a conflict-ridden city in the West Bank to thwart an imminent car bomb attack and other assaults. This coordinated action by the Palestinian Authority is directed against the militant groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad. The extensive operation in Jenin began on December 5 but was only announced this weekend as clashes escalated. As a result of the operation, three Palestinians, including at least two armed fighters, have been killed, and several security personnel of the Authority were injured.
