The Italian government is prepared to work closely with the automotive company Stellantis on a forward-looking corporate strategy, provided the company continues to secure jobs and production sites in Italy. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made this statement at an event of her party Brothers of Italy in Rome ahead of an upcoming meeting on the Italian automotive industry on December 17th. In addition to Industry Minister Adolfo Urso, representatives of the company and local trade unions are expected to attend this meeting.
Meloni emphasized that every economic decision will be judged on its own merit. This approach applies to both Stellantis and all other companies operating in Italy. She stressed that the government will offer its support if a constructive approach is pursued and the company shows a willingness to maintain production sites and jobs.
Following the unexpected resignation of CEO Carlos Tavares this month, Rome hopes to improve strained relations with the automotive group, which includes brands like Jeep, Ram, Fiat, and Peugeot. In the past, Italian politicians have repeatedly accused Tavares of neglecting historic production sites and relocating production abroad. Modern Financial Markets Data
