Joe Rogan recently caused a stir on Instagram when he shared a video created with OpenAI's AI video generator, Sora. The video impressed many of his fans with a variety of content, including monkeys and even the mythical Kraken, leading to a heated discussion. Rogan's posting, captioned "RIP Hollywood?" questions an industry increasingly challenged by technological advancements. OpenAI officially introduced Sora as part of its "12 Days of OpenAI" event and offers this tool exclusively to ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers. Touted as "GPT-1 for videos," Sora enables the creation and editing of videos using simple text inputs and can produce clips up to 20 seconds long as well as complete missing frames in existing videos. This innovation provides creatives with a way to produce content faster and more resource-efficiently. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman openly stated, "This is just the beginning... but I already find the offering very compelling. I look forward to seeing what you create with it." While major film studios view these developments with concern, Sora already demonstrates the potential to empower smaller studios and independent creatives with a powerful tool. Toys "R" Us used Sora to produce a brand film for the Cannes Lions Festival, with approximately 85% of the production done by the AI. The creative agency Native Foreign added only a few nuances, highlighting Sora's speed and cost-effectiveness.
