Gary O'Neil had to vacate his position as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers after the Premier League club slipped dangerously close to the relegation zone due to an unfortunate dry spell. According to British media reports, this decision was made on Sunday after the Wolves suffered another defeat - this time a 1-2 loss to Ipswich Town. The club currently ranks 19th in the table with only nine points and remains winless in four league games. Overall, the Wanderers have only managed to win twice in 16 encounters this season. With 40 goals conceded, the team also boasts the weakest defense in the league. In addition to sports-related concerns, there are internal conflicts, such as the recent incident involving Mario Lemina, who was stripped of the captain's armband due to disputes with Jarrod Bowen from West Ham United. The dismissal of O'Neil comes as a surprise as the club's chairman, Jeff Shi, recently publicly expressed his support for the manager, despite the growing discontent among fans. Gary O'Neil, the former coach of Bournemouth, was only appointed shortly before the past season to succeed Julen Lopetegui. Lopetegui had left following differences with the club's management and is now working at West Ham United. Under O'Neil's leadership, the Wolves finished last season in 14th place, the worst finish since their promotion in 2018. During his tenure, O'Neil achieved 20 wins, 11 draws, and 32 losses in a total of 63 games. Currently, the club declined to comment on the recent events.
