Adani Group secures significant power supply contract in Maharashtra

The Indian energy companies Adani Power and Adani Green Energy have jointly secured a contract to supply a total of 6,600 megawatts of renewable and thermal power to the state of Maharashtra for a period of 25 years. Both companies announced this in a joint statement. Since March 2023, Adani Green Energy has been supplying the metropolis of Mumbai in the state of Maharashtra with green energy derived from a wind-solar plant in Jaisalmer in the state of Rajasthan. Thanks to the new contract, Adani Green Energy and Adani Power can further expand their presence in Maharashtra. Adani Green Energy will provide 5,000 megawatts of solar power from its renewable energy park in Khavda in the Kutch district of Gujarat. Adani Power will contribute 1,600 megawatts of thermal power from a new facility. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company has issued a letter of intent to award the contract to Adani Power and will conclude separate agreements with both companies for their respective power deliveries, as stated by Adani Power in a declaration. According to state estimates, power consumption in Maharashtra is expected to rise to 200 terawatt-hours by 2028, with 32 percent expected to come from renewable sources.
