The Canadian government under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is taking additional measures to reduce immigration numbers in a country significantly strained by rapid population growth. For the coming year, Canada plans to admit even fewer international students, following an already reduced issuance of visas for 2024. Additionally, the number of spouses of foreign workers and master's degree students who can apply for work visas will be further restricted. This was announced by Immigration Minister Marc Miller on Wednesday in Ottawa. The measures aim to alleviate the demands on infrastructure and public services in Canada, which have come under increasing pressure due to high immigration numbers.
