In the Mexican state of Guerrero, notorious for its propensity for violence, a tragic event once again cast a dark shadow. Alejandro Arcos, recently sworn in as mayor of the capital, Chilpancingo, was murdered just six days after taking office. Governor Evelyn Salgado expressed her dismay over the loss, which has left the entire society of the state in deep mourning and caused outrage. The Guerrero prosecutor's office is investigating the murder after shocking images circulated on WhatsApp allegedly showing Arcos' beheaded body on a pickup truck. The authenticity of the footage has not yet been confirmed. Just three days before this crime, the secretary of the new city administration, Francisco Tapia, was shot dead. Both victims were young and rising officials committed to the progress of their community, as Senator Alejandro Moreno emphasized. The PRI party leader urged the federal prosecutor's office to lead the murder investigations due to the precarious security situation in Guerrero. This state is one of the most dangerous regions for politicians and journalists, especially during campaign times, where at least six candidates have already been killed. Prior to his death, Arcos had been heavily involved in disaster relief following Hurricane John, which recently caused devastating floods in Acapulco and surrounding areas.
