This coming Thursday, Tesla plans to present its long-awaited robotaxi unveiling as part of the "We, Robot" event. The world watches eagerly to see what this project will look like, which strategies for commercialization will be presented, and of course, what forward-looking promises Tesla CEO Elon Musk might make to boost the stock price. The presentation will take place at the Warner Bros. Discovery film studio in Burbank, California. This glamorous location promises a certain level of showmanship alongside the presentation. Originally, the unveiling of the robotaxi, sometimes referred to as the "Cybercab," was planned for August 8. Since the Reuters report revealing the postponement of more affordable EV plans in favor of the robotaxi, interest has continued to grow, even though Musk initially vigorously denied it. Tesla investors have mixed feelings about the event, particularly in light of the company's strained margins last year, influenced by the intensive production of the Cybertruck. There is inevitably a concern that the new vehicle could involve significant investments in production lines and associated costly challenges. Observers expect the unveiling of a prototype, a two-seater compactly designed vehicle with sharp edges in the style of the Cybertruck. Interestingly, the design might not include a steering wheel and pedals. However, regulatory hurdles could impede these visionary plans, as they may not align with motor safety standards. By choosing the studio grounds for the presentation, Tesla signals not only progress but also a certain level of entertainment. The setting simultaneously offers a controlled backdrop for demonstrations of the new Cybercab. There is also speculation about the introduction of other future products, such as the much-discussed $25,000 EV, known among fans as Model 2, as well as a potential Cybervan. A partnership with well-known companies like Uber or even McDonald's might also be announced, with the latter having recently hinted at this on social media. Nonetheless, a clear, immediate strategy for commercialization is not expected to be unveiled at the event. Critics remain skeptical about whether a fully autonomous car will be market-ready in the near future. Musk has promised this for years, but the necessary technology is still up for debate. Even optimistic analysts foresee a mixed future for Tesla's autonomous ridesharing, with a "dual" approach expected: a partly supervised service and one that operates without a driver. Ultimately, the actual production of the Cybercabs might not begin until 2025 at the earliest, as experts estimate. Until then, it remains to be seen how Tesla will further develop its vision.
