Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled the highly anticipated Cybercab at the "We, Robot" event, a smaller and more elegant-looking version of the Cybertruck. However, many attendees were surprised by the absence of a prototype of a robotaxi without a steering wheel and pedals. Instead, Musk delighted the audience with a fleet of 20 vehicles. At the Warner Bros. Discovery studio, Tesla's futuristic visions were on display: Musk proudly demonstrated "inductive charging," a wireless charging system, on a robotaxi with gull-wing doors. A demonstration along the perfectly manicured roads of the Hollywood studio rounded off the show. The company leader reiterated his well-known forecast that the cost of autonomous driving could drop to as low as $0.20 per mile. He also announced a sale price for the Cybercab under $30,000 and assured that the revolutionary vehicle could go into production by 2026. Musk's announcement that attendees would have the opportunity to test the Cybercabs at the event itself elicited particularly enthusiastic reactions. Furthermore, he showcased a Robovan, a self-driving minibus without providing any timelines for mass production. In addition to the vehicles, Musk also introduced humanoid robots named Optimus. These robots danced and interacted with guests, spoke in various accents, and even conducted drink demonstrations. Musk's vision: robots as everyday helpers at an affordable price. With the introduction of the Cybercab and his plans for autonomous fleets, Tesla aims to change the image of mobility. Critics, however, note that the vehicles are not yet fully autonomous, as the software, despite being labeled "Full Self-Driving," still requires human attention. Meeting the legal safety requirements remains a crucial issue. Musk's visions, as fascinating as they may be, still encounter regulatory hurdles, particularly concerning the absence of control mechanisms. The path to a fully autonomous future is complex, yet Musk and Tesla are forging ahead relentlessly.
