The transfer of Mason Greenwood to Olympique Marseille is imminent. The Ligue 1 club plans to pay its Premier League counterpart a transfer fee of 31.6 million euros. This is composed of 27.6 million euros as a fixed amount and 4 million euros in additional bonuses. Furthermore, Manchester United will receive a significant share of any potential future resale. Greenwood returned to Manchester United's training ground earlier this week to hold talks with the club's management and facilitate his departure from Old Trafford. The talented forward attracted the interest of several top European clubs following an impressive loan spell at Getafe, where he scored 10 goals in 36 games. Among the clubs that have recently monitored the 22-year-old attacker are Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, and Napoli. However, Marseille has positioned itself in the pole position in the race for Greenwood's services. Should the move to southern France materialize, Greenwood would play under the direction of Roberto De Zerbi, who was appointed Marseille's new head coach in June. Greenwood has not played a competitive match for Manchester United since January 2022, after he was arrested. In August last year, the club confirmed that he would not be returning to the first team and that Greenwood was being made available for transfer. This decision came after the UK Crown Prosecution Service dropped charges of attempted murder, assault, and coercion against him, as key witnesses withdrew their statements. Greenwood has consistently denied all allegations. Since his debut in 2019, Greenwood has scored a total of 35 goals in 129 appearances for Manchester United.
