According to new information, Israeli special forces successfully destroyed a Hezbollah missile production facility in Syria during an operation on Sunday, as reported by American and Western officials. The secret location in northwestern Syria was heavily hit by airstrikes before ground troops, who descended by helicopter, stormed the site to secure evidence. This operation took place in the early morning hours, leaving 18 dead and 37 injured, according to the Syrian news agency SANA. It is one of the deadliest attacks in Syria in recent months. This mission marks Israel's latest long-range attack in its ongoing conflicts against Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas, and other militant groups in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as well as against Iranian and Syrian targets. Officials, speaking anonymously to the New York Times, provided insight into the sensitive information behind the attack. The operation began with intense airstrikes late Sunday and early Monday, as reported by Western officials, before command troops penetrated the heavily secured inner areas of the facility. These were buried deep in a mountainside and could not be reached by airstrikes alone. To ensure the complete destruction of the facility, ground troops equipped with explosives were deployed. Israel had repeatedly attacked the facility in the past and in 2018 assassinated a Syrian missile technician involved in the development of precision-guided munitions.
