The midfielder Moussa Niakhaté is transferring from Nottingham Forest to Lyon for 27 million pounds. With a four-year contract, the 28-year-old will play for the French club until at least 2028. In an official statement, Nottingham Forest wished Niakhaté all the best for the future and thanked him for his contributions during his time at the club. The Senegalese player had joined the English team from Mainz 05 in July 2022, where he had captained the team and made 128 Bundesliga appearances. During his two seasons at Nottingham Forest, the defender played 37 matches and played a crucial role in helping the club remain in the Premier League after 23 years. While at Forest, Niakhaté also made his debut for the Senegal national team and played for them in the Africa Cup of Nations. In total, Niakhaté has earned 12 international caps but missed the 2022 World Cup due to injury. Nottingham Forest is currently undergoing restructuring to comply with the Premier League's strict profit and sustainability rules (PSR) and might face a potential points deduction for the next season if financial targets are not met. This summer, the club has already been active in the transfer market, completing the transfer of Elliot Anderson from Newcastle United with a five-year contract.
