A significant cyberattack on the telecommunications giant AT&T has exposed the connection data of nearly all customers. The company announced this last Friday. The affected data includes call and text logs from May 2022 to October 2022 as well as on January 2, 2023. Although sensitive information such as the content of conversations and messages, social security numbers, passwords, and other personally identifiable data were not compromised, the disclosed phone activity still poses a significant security risk for customers. AT&T has confirmed that almost all customers are affected and plans to inform affected users via text message, email, or postal mail. For customers, this means that their phone numbers, the frequency of calls and messages, and contact numbers have been exposed. Personal data such as birth dates or social security numbers are not affected according to the company. However, even without the names of customers in the leak, they could be identified through publicly accessible online tools, AT&T warned. If you are an AT&T customer, you will be notified shortly if your account is affected by the data breach. Be cautious and review your communication settings.
