China has strongly warned the European Union against conducting price negotiations with individual electric vehicle manufacturers. Eight rounds of negotiations in Brussels have so far not led to a breakthrough regarding the tariffs planned by the EU. On October 4, the EU voted to increase tariffs on electric vehicles from China to up to 45 percent. The reasoning: Beijing grants its car manufacturers unfair subsidies. China firmly rejects this accusation and, in turn, threatens tariffs on European products such as dairy, brandy, pork, and automobiles. This exchange between the economic powers could further exacerbate the tense atmosphere in global markets and lead to disruptions in the automotive industry.
