The English Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion has signed the Dutch international player Mats Wieffer from Feyenoord. The 24-year-old midfielder has signed a five-year contract that binds him to the Amex Stadium until 2029. This recruitment follows the acquisition of Yankuba Minteh, a 19-year-old Gambian winger who joined for £30 million from Newcastle United, under the aegis of the recently appointed head coach Fabian Hurzeler. Technical Director David Weir expressed his satisfaction with the new signing: "We are very pleased to welcome Mats to the club. He is a player whose qualities we have long admired. He brings a wealth of experience from the Champions League and the Eredivisie and has developed into one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe." Brighton is also counting on the support of the already active Dutch players at the club, Bart Verbruggen, Jan Paul van Hecke, and Joel Veltman, who will help Mats with his acclimatization. Weir added: "We look forward to further developing Mats' career at Brighton." The club is eager to strengthen both the central midfield and the right defensive side and has already expressed interest in Rayo Vallecano's Romanian right-back Andrei Ratiu. Mats Wieffer had an impressive season at Feyenoord, where he contributed five goals and three assists in 29 league games, helping the club to a runner-up finish. At the international level, he has so far earned nine caps for the Netherlands.
