iHeartMedia has presented its results for the second quarter of 2024, demonstrating solid performance within the projected forecasts. Despite a dynamic market environment characterized by uncertain interest rate forecasts, inflation trends, and political challenges, the company exhibited positive developments, particularly in the podcast business and digital audio offerings. The second quarter brought iHeartMedia an adjusted EBITDA of $150 million, which was in the middle of the forecast range of $140 to $160 million. Consolidated revenues increased by 1% year-over-year, slightly above the originally projected threshold of an acceptable 0%. The Digital Audio Group saw a revenue increase of 10% to $286 million, contributing 31% to the company’s total revenue. Within the Digital Audio Group, podcast revenues grew by 8% compared to the previous year. Expectations for the third and fourth quarters, as well as the full year 2024, remain optimistic with double-digit growth predicted. Robert Pittman, Chairman and CEO of iHeartMedia, emphasized that despite dynamic market conditions, significant progress was made in the podcast and digital sectors. The utilization of existing broadcast radio assets has brought substantial benefits. iHeartMedia also remains a leader in podcast publishing, recording more monthly downloads than the next two largest podcast publishers combined. Additionally, the Multi-Platform Group, which encompasses broadcast radio, networks, and events, generated $576 million in revenue in the second quarter, a decline of 3% compared to the previous year. The adjusted EBITDA for this group was $104 million, compared to $162 million in the prior year's quarter. Despite these declines, positive revenue growth is expected in the second half of the year. Another highlight is the collaboration with NBC for the exclusive audio broadcast of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, providing additional engagement opportunities and reach for iHeartMedia. Overall, the company remains focused on growth through technological advancements, including the development of programmatic platforms and the application of AI to enhance efficiency and profitability.
