BMW reaches milestone in software updates

The BMW Group has once again demonstrated its innovative strength with its Remote Software Upgrades, surpassing the impressive milestone of over 10 million successfully installed updates by the end of September. These updates are wirelessly transmitted to the vehicles and can be initiated by the customer. Christoph Grote, Senior Vice President Electronics and Software at the BMW Group, emphasized that BMW is now capable of updating over nine million vehicles worldwide. This ability to modernize the entire vehicle software in this manner underscores the company's expertise in the field of software-defined vehicles. The breakthrough of ten million executed Remote Software Upgrades highlights how popular this form of innovation is with customers. This functionality has now been extended to all brands, model series, and drive types. With the new Operating System 9, MINI models and the Rolls-Royce Spectre can also be updated remotely. Christoph Grote added that the capability for Remote Software Upgrade increases customer convenience and safety by providing new functions and improvements without the need for a workshop visit. The technology behind the updates has enabled BMW to bring numerous new functions and improvements to customers' vehicles, extending beyond comfort and safety features to include infotainment, driving, and driver assistance systems. A recent customer study confirmed the importance of regular updates for product development. The BMW Group plans to strengthen its position in this area in the coming weeks and months with a series of additional updates, including attractive, model-specific features such as a Silent Mode and a new Curve Ahead View in the Head-Up Display, which provides a virtual 'look around the corner.'
