The capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, is set to host the world's second futuristic event dome. This was announced by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi and Sphere Entertainment Co., following the opening of the first of these spectacular structures in Las Vegas. Both the financing and the exact location of the new Sphere in Abu Dhabi remain unresolved. Neither representatives of Sphere Entertainment Co. nor the government of Abu Dhabi have disclosed further details about the planned construction. The magnificent structure in Las Vegas, known as the city's most expensive event center with construction costs of 2.3 billion dollars, impresses with a high-resolution LED screen that majestically wraps around the spectator area, which accommodates 17,500 people. In addition to breathtaking concerts, the venue is also expected to host sporting events. The projects reflect Abu Dhabi's ambition to establish itself as an independent tourism destination within the United Arab Emirates and to distinguish itself from the competition in Dubai. The ambitious plans for the country’s first casino opening underline this objective. Nonetheless, a certain skepticism remains, as some major projects in the region have stalled in the past due to economic fluctuations.
