An unplanned maneuver had to be performed by a Boeing 737 with 190 passengers on board on its way from Dortmund to Katowice on Friday evening.

During the start of the aircraft, there was a bird strike in which one or more birds were ingested into the engine, a fire department spokesperson reported on Saturday morning.

For safety reasons, the pilot decided to turn back and return to Dortmund Airport. The landing went smoothly, and there were no injuries among the passengers or crew.

The engine of the Boeing 737 was, however, damaged, so the passengers had to leave the aircraft and continue their flight with a replacement plane.

The Boeing stock was temporarily up 0.20 percent in NYSE trading at $190.59.
