The video conferencing specialist Zoom introduces an innovative feature that allows users to communicate with digital avatars. These deceptively realistic figures will initially be used in the "Zoom Clips" feature, where short video notes can be recorded. Instead of recording videos yourself, it is sufficient to write a text - the software then animates a digital copy with appropriate lip movements and a mimicked voice. This feature is set to be available next year.

Zoom creates digital avatars based on existing user videos and assures that comprehensive security measures are in place to prevent misuse. One of the main concerns with such technologies is the possibility of generating fake videos that appear deceptively real. Therefore, Zoom has emphasized that the use of these avatars is strictly regulated and monitored.

While the video avatars are initially limited to creating clips, Zoom CEO Eric Yuan mentioned the possibility of using digital twins in video conferences in the future during an interview with "The Verge" this summer. This would allow employees, for example, to not be physically present but still participate in meetings virtually while being elsewhere, such as on the beach.

The demand for video conferencing surged during the COVID-19 pandemic as millions of people around the world worked and learned from home. Now, Zoom is trying to bridge this phase of growth and tap into new revenue streams through AI-based features. The introduction of digital avatars is a step in this direction, offering users innovative communication options while simultaneously increasing efficiency.

The shares of Zoom responded positively to the announcement. In NASDAQ trading, the stock temporarily rose by 0.06 percent to 70.01 US dollars, reflecting investors' confidence in the company's future developments.
