Kamala Harris, the current Vice President of the USA, has raised a remarkable fundraising sum of 540 million USD as part of her presidential campaign. This impressive figure includes donations to her campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and joint fundraising committees. During the Democratic National Convention (DNC) alone this week, Harris raised 82 million USD, according to a memo from her campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon.

This is a record for any campaign in history," O'Malley Dillon declared, highlighting that the fundraising coalition surpassed the $500 million mark on Thursday, just before Harris' appearance on the DNC stage in Chicago. Immediately after her speech, considered to be the most important of her political career, the campaign experienced its best fundraising hour since the campaign started.

Particularly noteworthy is the rise in 'unprecedented grassroots donations' during DNC week. One-third of the donations came from first-time supporters, 20 percent of whom were young voters and two-thirds were women. This broad support demonstrates the growing engagement for Harris, especially among those who had not previously been actively involved in the political process.

The convention, which lasted four days, was marked by the Democratic Party's rebranding efforts to present themselves as patriotic defenders of the nation. Harris positioned herself as the candidate of change and emphasized in her speech that it is now up to her generation to defend the country. "Guided by optimism and faith, we fight for this country that we love," she called out to the enthusiastic, flag-waving supporters.

The new fundraising figure is another sign of the strength of their campaign. In July, Harris raised four times as much as Donald Trump – $204 million compared to Trump's $48 million, according to an analysis by the Financial Times. This could further close the fundraising gap that Trump had built over Joe Biden.

Harris' campaign entered August with $220 million in cash, while Trump's campaign had $151 million available. Nevertheless, Trump continues to attract major donors, including a $50 million donation from billionaire Timothy Mellon, who hails from the well-known U.S. banking dynasty.

During a campaign appearance in a swing state on Friday, Trump attacked Harris for her inconsistent policies and welcomed the endorsement of former Democrat Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who recently withdrew his own presidential candidacy.

Despite these attacks, enthusiasm for Harris remains undiminished. Trump campaign advisors Tony Fabrizio and Travis Tunis acknowledged in a memorandum on Saturday that "another small (albeit temporary) uptick for Harris in the polls is to be expected after the DNC.

According to a poll by FiveThirtyEight, Harris is currently leading Trump by 3.6 percentage points on a national level.
