Surprising Resignation at the Top of EnBW: Energy Giant Without a Leader
Energy Giant in Turmoil: EnBW CEO Schell Departs Unexpectedly – Power Struggle with Supervisory Board After Just 18 Months.
EnBW, one of Germany's Leading Energy Suppliers, Announces Unexpected Leadership Change: CEO Andreas Schell Steps Down After Just Since November 2022, Citing Differing Views on Company's Strategic Development. The decision, made during an extraordinary meeting of the Supervisory Board, comes as disagreements over the future direction of the corporation made it impossible for him to continue in his role despite a three-year contract.
As the new Chairman of the Board, Georg Stamatelopoulos, who was previously responsible for the "Sustainable Production Infrastructure" division on the Board, will step up. He has been appointed until the end of May 2029 and will thus take over the management of the group. In his previous role, Stamatelopoulos has been particularly committed to the expansion of renewable energies and the planning of hydrogen-capable gas power plants and is considered a team player who maintains the balance between climate protection, supply security, and affordability.
EnBW, which supplies more than five million customers nationwide with electricity, gas, and water, thus enters a new era under the leadership of Stamatelopoulos, who is expected to master the challenges of the energy industry in a time of change and sustainability.
