Stellantis recalls over half a million vehicles due to Takata airbags
The automobile manufacturer initiates a recall campaign for Citroen models DS 3 and C3 from the years 2009 to 2019.
Stellantis has announced that more than half a million cars of its DS and Citroën brands, which are equipped with airbags from the Japanese automotive supplier Takata, are affected by the current recall.
The European automobile manufacturer announced on Wednesday evening that its current recall campaign affects 530,000 vehicles of the DS 3 and C3 models, produced between 2009 and 2019. These vehicles are equipped with specific Takata airbags, for which a risk has been identified.
Stellantis emphasized that no risk was identified for other models with different components.
The headline shows how the effects of the Takata airbag crisis, which began in the last decade and forced car companies to recall millions of vehicles, continue to impact the industry. Takata filed for bankruptcy in 2017, and automakers set aside billions to cover settlements and replacement costs.
The recall highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the automotive industry regarding safety and responsibility toward customers. Stellantis' decision to act proactively underscores the importance placed on consumer protection, especially concerning potentially dangerous components.
