Lufthansa strengthens presence in the growing Indian aviation market and redeploys capacities from other countries. The German airline Lufthansa has announced plans to enhance its involvement in the booming Indian aviation market by withdrawing flight capacities from other countries. "India is growing faster than any of our other destinations," explained Heiko Reitz, Lufthansa's sales chief, during an interview with the news agency Reuters at a conference in Hyderabad.

The Lufthansa Group currently offers 64 weekly flights to India, compared to 56 before the Corona crisis. As the fifth largest market worldwide for passenger flights, it is expected that the number of domestic air travelers will increase to 350 million by 2030 and that of international travelers to 160 million. India's aviation industry is on a growth trajectory driven by record orders for new aircraft and government investments in the expansion and modernization of airports.

To benefit from this growth, Lufthansa even plans to deploy the jumbo jet Airbus A380, which it was actually planning to phase out before the strong recovery of air traffic began after the Corona downturn. However, the competition in the Indian market is fierce.

Reitz emphasized that there is enough space for numerous airlines to expand in this market. The Lufthansa share is currently trading 0.07 percent higher at 7.30 euros via XETRA. The airline is responding to the strong growth potential in the Indian aviation sector, reflected in increasing passenger numbers and investments.

The relocation of capacities to India is part of Lufthansa's strategy to focus on economically promising markets and grow there. Reitz said that capacities in India are already 14 percent higher than before the pandemic. These adjustments are reflected in the weekly flight connections to India, which have been increased by eight flights.

The strong recovery of the Indian aviation sector is also promising for the future. Experts predict that the number of passengers will increase to over 500 million by 2030, which represents a threefold increase compared to the previous year. Lufthansa is well positioned to benefit from this growth, particularly through its increased focus on the Indian market and the planned reintroduction of the A380.

Overall, Lufthansa shows great optimism regarding the future of the Indian aviation market and plans to further expand its presence. The investment in the Indian market is already paying off, and with the right strategy and targeted adjustments of capacities, the airline will continue to be successful in the future.
