Google has now made its AI-powered research and writing assistant "NotebookLM" available to users in around 200 countries outside the USA.

NotebookLM" resembles the functionality of OpenAI's ChatGPT and Microsoft's Co-Pilot, but differs by exclusively using user-defined sources for its training. This means that "NotebookLM" operates as a closed system, analyzing only the information contained in the uploaded documents without accessing the internet for additional data.

Users can upload various file formats, including text files, PDF documents, and Google Docs. Newly added are the support of presentations (Google Slides) and website addresses as sources.

A year ago, the online application was presented at the I/O developer conference for users in the USA as a "virtual research assistant that can explain complex ideas and develop new correlations." Since then, the tool has been continuously expanded. Currently, "NotebookLM" can process up to 25 million words per notebook and allows the creation of up to 100 notebooks. While the application was initially only available in English, it now supports 100 languages, including German.

The Alphabet stock listed on Nasdaq temporarily gained 0.48 percent to $177.92 following the announcement.
