Microsoft claims to have made a significant advancement in the development of quantum computers.

That U.S. authorities take progress seriously is evidenced by the recent commission from the military research agency Darpa. Together with the California start-up PsiQuantum, which relies on photonic qubits, Microsoft is to demonstrate whether large-scale quantum computers can be realized in the near future. However, whether the ultimate quantum age will dawn in just a few years is questionable according to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang: He believes that a truly useful quantum computer is up to 20 years away. Microsoft sees it differently and hopes to achieve real breakthroughs more quickly with its drastically reduced error correction.
