The social network X, formerly known as Twitter, will relocate its headquarters from San Francisco to Texas. This information comes from an internal email by CEO Linda Yaccarino, which was reviewed by the New York Times. The workforce will move to existing offices in San Jose, and a new engineering-focused office will be opened in Palo Alto. Yaccarino emphasized in her email that while this decision has significant implications for many employees, it is the right move for the company in the long term. Elon Musk, who acquired the social network in 2022, had already announced plans last month to move both X's and SpaceX's headquarters to Austin, Texas. The move is prompted by a new California law that prohibits school districts from informing parents about a change in their child's gender identity. Musk described this as the "last straw" and emphasized that such laws attack both families and businesses. In response to Musk's decision, California Governor Gavin Newsom accused the entrepreneur of allegedly succumbing to external forces. Musk is also facing pressure from lawsuits filed by former employees who are still demanding severance payments totaling $500 million. The final relocation of X’s headquarters is expected to happen in the near future, joining SpaceX and Tesla in the state of Texas. The real estate management company Shorenstein, which manages X’s office building in San Francisco, has not yet provided a comment.
