For the third consecutive time, Max Verstappen recorded the fastest time in qualifying at the Belgian Grand Prix. Despite his impressive performance, the Dutch Red Bull driver will not start from pole position. A ten-place penalty for exceeding the allowable number of combustion engines forces him to start from 11th place. Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc managed to secure pole position at the last second, displacing Red Bull’s Sergio Pérez. The excitement remains high, as Verstappen’s pace is daunting. With a 0.595-second lead over Leclerc and the fact that overtaking at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit is relatively easy, Verstappen could triumph once again. Last year, he started from 14th place and led Red Bull to a one-two finish. However, this year McLaren is a serious contender. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri start from fourth and fifth positions. Known for their “incredible” long-run speed, they could pose a serious challenge. Mercedes has also improved, reverting to the old specification after an upgrade experiment. Lewis Hamilton starts from third place and George Russell from sixth. Despite the variable weather conditions, the race remains thrilling. Red Bull driver Sergio Pérez will start from the front row for the first time since China. Following a performance slump since the Miami GP, Pérez is trying to regain his earlier form. He edged out Williams driver Alex Albon and ultimately qualified behind Leclerc. Ferrari’s surprising pole by Leclerc will be tested under dry conditions, as Ferrari and Mercedes have recently struggled on dry surfaces. Mercedes driver Hamilton starts directly behind Leclerc, with Russell and Carlos Sainz in sixth and seventh positions. The weather remains unpredictable, and dry conditions could alter the course of events. While the McLaren team was very fast on Friday, it struggled in the wet and secured only fourth and fifth places in qualifying. Expectations are high, especially given Verstappen’s starting position and McLaren’s strong performance. The race promises to be exciting and unpredictable, particularly with the changing weather conditions. The battle for the top positions could hold some surprises.
