The British government has decided to permanently prohibit the prescription of puberty blockers for children with gender dysphoria. This decision affects those young people who suffer from the discomfort caused by the discrepancy between their gender identity and the sex assigned at birth. Health Minister Wes Streeting announced in the House of Commons on Wednesday that this step was taken after extensive consultation with the Commission on Human Medicines. This commission advises the government on the safety of medical products. An expert opinion by Dr. Hilary Cass concluded that the long-term benefits of treating gender-related distress are unproven.
