Tim Walz celebrates a brilliant debut as Kamala Harris' running mate

Tim Walz, the hitherto largely unknown Democratic Governor of Minnesota, made his frenetic national debut as Kamala Harris’s running mate on Tuesday evening. Energized and animated, he waved to the cheering crowd, bowed repeatedly, and joined Harris behind the podium as she delivered her first campaign speech. Harris, accustomed to the political choreography of waiting, smiled patiently and nodded consistently in agreement: "That's right," she said several times. The symbiotic dynamic between the two appeared harmonious and natural, despite the often complicated interactions and stage rules at such events. Throughout the evening, Walz repeatedly praised Harris’s "joy" and presented himself as a delighted winner of the political lottery. The former high school social studies teacher and football coach, known as "Coach Walz," seemed visibly taken with his new role. His background as an advisory teacher for the students' Gay-Straight Alliance was emphasized multiple times, garnering him additional sympathy. What emerged was a well-coordinated partnership, full of energy and enthusiasm, now commencing its foray onto the national political stage. Harris also appeared very pleased with Walz's athletic enthusiasm. Thus, it remains to be seen how this dynamic combination will develop over the course of the campaign.
