Elon Musk caused quite a stir with the presentation of Tesla's new "Cybercab," a prototype for driverless taxis. Against the backdrop of the famous Warner Bros. film studio, Musk demonstrated that some of the most popular models, such as the Model 3 and Model Y, could be operated without driver supervision in California and Texas as soon as next year. Another highlight of the evening was the plan to launch the Cybercab at an affordable price of under $30,000 by 2026. Additionally, Musk unveiled a "Robovan" that can transport up to 20 people and aims to create more parking space in metropolises. However, it wasn't just the autonomous driving that captured the audience's attention—humanoid robots dancing at the bar and even mixing drinks could soon be available for $20,000 to $30,000. Despite the usual show surrounded by electronic dance music, some investors miss clear forecasts on how Tesla plans to master the transition into a company focused on autonomous driving technologies and artificial intelligence. Ross Gerber, a prominent Tesla shareholder, emphasized the need to continue focusing on the sale of electric vehicles. While Musk presented his future plans with great enthusiasm, experts stressed that Tesla is still technically years behind competitors like Waymo. The company is pursuing a more cost-effective approach to autonomous driving, which, however, raises some safety concerns. Ramesh Poola, Co-CIO at Creative Planning, expressed his concerns about impending regulatory challenges but sees great potential in Tesla's new technologies. Although a fleet of autonomous Tesla taxis is still a long way off, the positive outlook for the future remains undeterred. Investors like Tasha Keeney hope that Tesla could take decisive steps in the coming year to offer a market-ready robotaxi service.
