Despite the rapid expansion of renewable energy sources, China's electricity generation from fossil fuels increased by 1.9% in the first eleven months of the year, according to the latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics. This slight increase indicates that the use of fossil fuels has not been completely replaced by renewable energy. Thermal power generation, mainly from coal, reached 5.74 trillion kilowatt-hours (kWh) from January to November. In November alone, thermal energy production rose by 1.4% to 517.5 billion kWh. While hydropower generation fell by 1.9% year-on-year to 82.3 billion kWh in November, it still recorded a growth of 11.2% over the year. This increase is attributed to a strong rise in hydropower production over the summer, facilitated by heavy rainfall in many regions of China. Overall, electricity generation increased by 0.9% in November to 749.5 billion kWh. The annual growth of all energy sources reached 5% for the first eleven months of the year, with total generation amounting to 8.57 trillion kWh.
