A devastating rain front has struck Bosnia and Herzegovina, leading to massive flooding in central and southern regions. Initial reports indicate that at least 14 people have lost their lives, while entire villages disappeared under the floodwaters. Drone footage, published by Bosnian media, shows the incredible scale of the disaster. Roads and railway lines, including the busy connection between Sarajevo and the Adriatic coast, were swallowed by a massive mudslide. In light of the threatening situation, civil protection authorities warned that many people are at risk due to floods and landslides. Neighboring Croatia also suffered from heavy rainfall and strong winds, while the capital Zagreb took measures to cope with the looming high water levels of the Sava River. Additionally, similar scenarios were reported from Montenegro, south of Bosnia. Heavy rainfall there left roads blocked and communities cut off from the outside world. Experts link the storm to human-induced climate change and the preceding drought conditions that made it difficult for the soil to absorb water. In the region of Jablanica, the military and volunteer rescuers are already assisting in the search for missing persons. "Hour by hour, we receive news of new victims," Defense Minister Zukan Helez told the television station N1. In Jablanica and Kiseljak, there were power outages, and communication was disrupted. Authorities strongly advise avoiding affected areas and seeking refuge on higher floors, as floodwaters have quickly filled lower-lying areas.
