Overnight severe weather has left a trail of devastation in the southern United States, resulting in the loss of life of more than ten individuals. U.S. news sources report a series of tornadoes that swept through Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, causing significant damage. The exact tally of losses and damages had not yet been fully recorded, as emergency services feverishly searched for the missing and provided care to the injured. The wind speeds were so intense that trucks were toppled and power lines, as well as trees, were uprooted, completely destroying numerous buildings. Images and videos on social media attest to the immense extent of the destruction. Severe destruction occurred in the Dallas area: a rest stop and a nearby trailer park were devastated in Cooke County, with seven fatalities confirmed, including two children. Deaths and injuries were also reported from neighboring Oklahoma. Large hailstones and prolonged power outages severely affected the population there. The emergency extended into Arkansas, where more than 100,000 people were affected by power outages and at least two people died, including a 26-year-old woman. In the other states of Missouri, Kentucky, and Kansas, hundreds of thousands are also without electricity. Meanwhile, severe weather alerts have been re-issued for numerous areas, which experts also associate with the impacts of climate change. Tennessee, Kentucky, and Indiana raised their warning levels. Indiana experienced a delay in the traditional Indy 500 race due to impending thunderstorms. Weather services announced that the storms are expected to shift later in the day, while additional warnings are being issued for extreme heat in the south. It is anticipated that temperatures in Texas could rise to 47 degrees Celsius (116.6 degrees Fahrenheit). Consequently, the upcoming Memorial23 Day in the United States could pose a weather-related challenge for many, as the traditional gatherings for swimming and grilling are in doubt in some regions due to the severe weather conditions.
