In the contest for the leadership of the conservative party, Robert Jenrick, former Minister for Immigration, won the second round of voting. Jenrick received 33 votes, putting him ahead of his competitors. Kemi Badenoch, the former Minister of Economy, garnered 28 votes. James Cleverly, former Minister of the Interior, and Tom Tugendhat, former Minister of Security, tied with 21 votes each. Mel Stride, the former Minister for Work and Pensions, was eliminated from the race with only 16 supporters. Out of the 121 total party members of parliament, all but two participated in the vote, marking the second round of the leadership election. Last week, the former Minister of the Interior, Dame Priti Patel, had already exited the race. The remaining four candidates will now present their arguments at the Conservative Party’s annual conference in Birmingham later this month. Subsequently, the field will be reduced to two candidates who will face a run-off vote by party members. The final winner will be announced on November 2.
