With the appointment of Poppy Gustafsson as Minister of Investment, the United Kingdom opens a new chapter in its investment strategy. Gustafsson, who previously served as CEO of Darktrace, takes on this role to represent the UK ahead of the Global Investment Summit in London. The co-founder of Darktrace helped establish the company in 2013 and led it to its public listing in London. Following spectacular growth, which resulted in Darktrace being acquired by the American private equity firm Thoma Bravo for $5.3 billion, she stepped down from her role as CEO in September. This position, situated between the Treasury and the Department for Business, aims to strengthen investor relations. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that the new structure of the Investment Ministry is part of a strategy to establish the UK as a primary investment destination. "Our goal is to make the United Kingdom the most attractive investment destination globally," emphasized Starmer. As part of this initiative, the government plans to expand the Office for Investment, with Gustafsson as the chair of a new board, which will include representatives from the Treasury, the Department for Business, and the Prime Minister's Office. Gustafsson will also be inducted into the House of Lords, offering her the opportunity to act as a government minister.
