According to media reports, after the death of the globally renowned Indian tycoon Ratan Tata, his half-brother Noel Tata has been named the new chairman of the Tata Trusts. The Tata Trusts function as the philanthropic arm and own 66% of the shares in Tata Sons, one of India's largest business groups with annual revenues of over 100 billion USD. Noel Tata, 76 years old, is the son of Naval and Simone Tata. He is already on the boards of many Tata companies and will now also lead the charitable activities. Throughout his impressive career, Noel Tata has held several leadership positions. He is the chairman of Tata International, Voltas, and Tata Investment Corporation, as well as the vice-chairman of Tata Steel and Titan Company. Furthermore, he leads Trent Limited, which has achieved significant success in the fashion and lifestyle sector with brands like Westside and Zudio. From 2010 to 2021, Noel Tata was responsible for Tata International, where under his leadership, the revenue increased from 500 million to over 3 billion USD. On Friday, CNBC-TV18 reported that Noel Tata was unanimously elected chairman of the Tata Trusts. His three children are also involved in the family business: his son Neville heads Star Bazaar, while his daughter Leah is responsible for the Gateway brand under The Indian Hotels Company. His other daughter, Maya Tata, works at Tata Digital. Ratan Tata left no descendants or officially designated successors, which fueled speculation about the future leadership of the Trusts after his death. As early as 2012, he handed over the chairmanship of Tata Sons to Cyrus Mistry, but returned briefly after Mistry's dismissal in 2016. Since 2017, N Chandrasekaran has been the chairman. Ratan Tata remained honorary chairman until his death and continued to lead the philanthropic activities until the end.
