Joel Embiid and Paul George are not yet ready for participation in a regular season game. However, their involvement in a full practice with their team, the Philadelphia 76ers, indicates positive progress. Both players are dealing with left knee injuries, which prevented them from playing in the fifth consecutive league game, which was against the Memphis Grizzlies. On Monday, the 76ers will face the Phoenix Suns in an away game.
The NBA imposed a $100,000 fine on the 76ers for not accurately communicating the health statuses of the players. Embiid has played a significant 434 games for the 76ers in his career, while Aaron Gordon, who was selected immediately after Embiid in the 2014 NBA Draft, has already played 669 regular season games and 52 playoff games.
Embiid, who earned the 2022-2023 MVP award, expressed frustration about the speculation regarding his readiness to play. "I've done too much for this city to be treated this way," he said after practice at the team's facility in New Jersey. His injury history includes a meniscus surgery in February 2016. Nevertheless, the center has averaged 27.9 points and 11.2 rebounds per game throughout his career.
Paul George, on the other hand, who joined the 76ers in July as a free agent, has recently been cleared for contact drills. He is currently recovering from a bone bruise. George, who has averaged 20.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in his 14-year NBA career, is now focusing on fully building his fitness to return to the court soon.
