IMAX's shares have recently experienced a significant price increase as expectations for a record year in 2025 grew following the release of quarterly figures. Despite a decline in revenue compared to the demanding benchmarks set by 'Oppenheimer,' the company reported growth in profits. IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond spoke with Catalysts hosts, Julie Hyman and Brad Smith, about the results and the company’s future plans.
In an interview with Yahoo Finance, Gelfond stated that 2025 could be a turning point for IMAX. During the current earnings call, the company projected a box office revenue of about $1.2 billion, with the business environment remaining very positive. Following successful films like 'Oppenheimer' and the recently launched 'Dune' (Part Two), IMAX continues to enjoy great popularity as a premier cinema experience, recording growth in several areas.
Gelfond casually dismissed concerns about a decline in IMAX's annual revenue, noting that comparisons with the extraordinarily successful previous year somewhat obscured the results. Nevertheless, the past quarter was strong.
