The Hyundai Motor Group has announced that production has officially begun at its new plant in Black Creek, Georgia. This facility is the largest economic project in the state's history and is mainly intended to manufacture the Hyundai IONIQ 5. The company is also considering future production of hybrid models. The new plant is located on a 2,923-acre site, and construction began almost two years ago. Currently, nearly 1,000 employees work there, but a total of 8,500 employees will eventually be needed. As part of an agreement with the state of Georgia, Hyundai has committed to creating at least 8,100 jobs by 2031. To celebrate this significant milestone, a ceremony was held on October 3, 2024, to acknowledge both the first IONIQ 5 coming off the production line and the achievements of the employees, referred to as "Meta Pros." These vehicles are expected to be available in U.S. dealerships by the end of the year. A grand opening ceremony is planned for the first quarter of 2025, with further details yet to be announced.
